Chimpanzee Mortes was approximately one and a half years old when he arrived at Tacugama in March 2012. He was brought to the sanctuary from the Kono district by an employee of a local diamond mine. Still just a toddler, he was given the opportunity at Tacugama to grow up safely among other chimpanzees.
Mortes has since grown into a social, funny, and above all, particularly mischievous chimp. He is smart, curious, and loves a game, though he has his own ideas about that. If you walk past his enclosure, you had better pay close attention. Mortes loves throwing stones at passers-by, and over the years, he has become quite good at it!
Behind those mischievous antics lies a social chimpanzee with a character all his own. Exactly the kind of personality that shows every chimp is different. Those who adopt Mortes can look forward to stories of a chimpanzee who is always up to something.
